About Katie

Katie Johnson is a classically trained pastry chef.  She grew up in NJ and went to The French Culinary Institute in NYC, graduating in 2001 with a degree in Pastry Arts.  She has worked in some of the finest restaurants and hotels on the East Coast - LeCirque in NYC, The Ritz Carlton Palm Beach and The Breakers Palm Beach.  Katie was Executive Pastry Chef at LaGriglia in Kenilworth, NJ, Head Baker and Pastry Chef at Mardis Gras Fine Foods in Bloomfield, NJ, Pastry Sous Chef at Tsunami in Palm Beach, FL and Executive Pastry Chef at Dakotah's in Delray Beach, FL.  She started her own business in 2004 when she decided that she wanted to make cakes and desserts for people her way.  Katie moved to Matthews, NC in 2008 with her husband and toddler son and brought Cakes by Katie with her.  She prides herself not only on the fact that her cakes and pastries look good, but that they also taste incredible.  She loves working with her customers to create the perfect cake or dessert for every occasion.  She doesn't believe in skimping on ingredients or making shortcuts in recipes and it shows in her work.  See for yourself - you won't be sorry. 

Since moving to Matthews from Florida in 2008, Cakes by Katie has grown immensly.  Word of mouth is traveling fast and we have gone from doing a birthday cake or two a month to multiple cakes every week, along with weddings and large events - not to mention having baked well over 70 dozen cookies this past Christmas alone.  Charlotte is a great area with lots of people looking for more than the average grocery store cake, and Cakes by Katie is here to fill those orders!  Give us a call or e-mail us with any questions you may have.  We'd love to hear from you!
